It has been an incredible year for Welsh football and Gunter played an instrumental part in helping his country reach the semi-finals of Euro 2016, having qualified for a major tournament for the first time in 58 years.

And Gunter, who recently became the fourth highest capped player in Welsh football history, was the recipient of the Media Choice Award when the great and the good in Welsh football came together at a venue just outside Cardiff.

Royals Academy graduate Hal Robson-Kanu also picked up an award for the goal he scored against Belgium in Lille, while Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey took some of the other plaudits on the night.

The focus will now turn to the weekend for Gunter, who could earn his 77th international cap for Wales on Saturday when Serbia are the visitors to the Cardiff City Stadium for a crucial 2018 World Cup qualifier.
