Ahead of the Game: Checkatrade Trophy clash at Pompey

A preview of our trip to Pompey

Reading embark on their second fixture of their Checkatrade Trophy campaign this evening in a 7.45pm kick-off at Fratton Park, as Martin Kuhl’s side face League 2 outfit Portsmouth.

In the competition’s new format the Royals are one of 16 Category 1 Academies competing alongside League One and Two clubs, with Reading coming up against Pompey in the second game of the group stage.

Martin Kuhl will take charge of the young Reading squad this evening, which according to competition rules must include six U21 players in his starting XI. Reading have the chance to reach the knockout stages with a game to spare if they can beat Portsmouth tonight, following a 3-2 away win at Bristol Rovers in the opening match of Southern Group A.  

Pompey head into the fixture having lost their last two league fixtures at the hands of Doncaster and Blackpool. The South Coast club played a much-changed side in their opening fixture of the trophy in a thrilling 4-3 loss away at Yeovil Town.

Reading Fans will be situated in in the South Stand Lower, entry through turnstiles 27 and 28. For fans wanting to buy on the night please visit the Portsmouth Ticket Office on Frogmore Road.

Adult tickets are priced at £7 with 62 & Over tickets and 18-22's all at £4 and 7 & under costing £1.
