Striker called up for Young Lions’ trip to Romania

First-year Academy scholar Danny Loader has once again been called up to the England Under-17 squad, ahead of their visit to Romania for the opening round of qualifying for next summer’s European Championships, which takes place over the course of six days in the coming week.

The 16-year-old played and scored against both Greece and Germany in the Croatia Cup recently, as the youngsters cruised to three straight wins in a round-robin friendly tournament.

And once again he is involved in the national team setup as they get set for games against Austria, Azerbaijan and group hosts Romania.  The goal is to take a step closer to booking a place in the finals tournament next May, which also takes place in Croatia.

He’ll team up with some of the other top talents from his age-group – from some of the most highly-acclaimed clubs on these shores – as they aim to continue their fine form in friendly fixtures into these competitive outings.

The Young Lions sit in Group 6 of the qualifying round, and will kick-off their campaign against Azerbaijan in Buftea on Tuesday 25th October at 1pm (BST).  Next up are hosts Romania, at the same venue, two days later on Thursday 27th October (kick-off 1pm BST).

And England’s group-stage fixtures conclude on Sunday 30th October as they face Austria in Voluntari.  A top-two place will secure a spot in the Elite Round of qualifying, while the five best third-placed teams from the 12 groups will also progress.

For Loader, it will again mean missing some domestic action with our Under-18s – their trip to Swansea next weekend and yesterday’s home meeting with Arsenal – but it’ll mean more amazing experience for Danny.

The squad in full is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Curtis Anderson (Manchester City), Thomas McGill (Brighton & Hove Albion).
Defenders: Timothy Eyoma (Tottenham Hotspur), Lewis Gibson (Newcastle United), Joel Latibeaudiere (Manchester City), Brooklyn Lyons-Foster (Tottenham Hotspur), Jonathan Panzo (Chelsea).
Midfielders: Alex Denny (Everton), Morgan Gibbs-White (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Angel Gomes (Manchester United), George McEachran (Chelsea), Tashan Oakley-Boothe (Tottenham Hotspur).
Forwards: Rhian Brewster (Liverpool), Phil Foden (Manchester City), Callum Hudson-Odoi (Chelsea), Danny Loader (Reading), Jadon Malik Sancho (Manchester City), Emile Smith Rowe (Arsenal).
