Danny hits the net against Greece and GermanyAcademy scholar Danny Loader scored twice in two victorious appearances for England’s Under-17 squad in the Croatia Cup over the course of September and October.
The centre-forward, who began the first year of his scholarship with our Under-18s this summer, has been regularly involved for the Young Lions in recent years – and added goals in a 3-0 win against Greece and an 8-1 demolition of Germany to his tally for the national team.
His goals helped England to a perfect record of three wins in their round-robin friendly tournament in the Istrian peninsula. Loader was an unused sub for the first outing, which was a 5-0 triumph against hosts Croatia in Pula.
But the Royals forward was named in the starting XI for the following game and played over an hour against Greece at Stadium Laco in Novigrad… and it was Loader that opened the scoring after half an hour. Emile Smith-Rowe and Callum Hudson-Odoi, of Arsenal and Chelsea respectively, added goals after the break.
He then played the second half in England’s final game of the tournament, as old rivals Germany were swept aside by an 8-1 scoreline. Loader replaced Liverpool’s Rhian Brewster at the interval and added Reading’s eighth and final goal in the closing stages of a successful tournament for Steve Cooper’s Under-17s.
The Royals’ Under-18 squad have played two domestic fixtures during his absence, and returned four points in the U18 Premier League… with no shortage of goals!
Joel Rollinson earned Reading a point with the equalising goal in a 1-1 draw against high-flying Southampton at Hogwood in late September, and October began with a 7-4 triumph away at Brighton.
