Midfielder Remi Allen visited a girls-only Soccer School run by the Community TrustRemi Allen got a cracking assist last weekend to help the Women’s team in their 4-1 victory over Doncaster Rovers (check out the highlights here)...
... and following the game, the midfielder took some time out to visit a girls-only Soccer School at the Piggott School in Twyford - run by the Reading FC Community Trust.
Earlier this month was Women in Sport Week and speaking on the event Allen said: “There are loads of girls starting to come into football and events such as Women in Sport Week really help drive the numbers - and the more we can encourage it the better!”
This week is now the FA Girls Football Week during which girls and women across the country are encouraged to play football! For more information click here
Speaking ahead of the Q&A with the kids the women’s team number 8 said, “That’s the joy of children, you never know what kind of questions you’re going to get!
Allen ended up fielding a variety of questions from the girls aged 8 – 16 including; favourite position and player (box to box midfielder, and Steven Gerrard or Kelly Smith), tips to getting to the top level, the hectic schedule of a professional player as well as what motivates her!
She had an eager audience of young girls all keen to follow in her footsteps, and as Remi said the Community Trust is offering them the first big step.
“The Community Trust do an amazing job with girls in the local area, if you look around the numbers have increased massively and a lot of them have Reading kits on! I’m sure they aspire to eventually play for Reading and it’s good for the club to be building that connection.
“There’s loads of talent out there, it’s good that these sessions are run so we can spot the local talent and get them signed up!”
