Royals boss previews Saturday afternoon's fixture with Forest...

Reading manager Jaap Stam has his sights firmly fixed on a result at Madejski Stadium on Saturday, when he Royals face Nottingham Forest in the Sky Bet Championship.

After Tuesday evening’s EFL Cup tie at the Emirates Jaap admits the Royals have had less time to prepare for the game than Forest, but believes in his team and says the whole squad are determined to earn a result come the weekend.

“The game on Saturday against Forest is a very important game,” said Stam. “It’s a very big game so we’re going to try to get a good result at home.

“In the Championship there are lots of games to be played and also in the cups as well. While the other teams in the league have been able to have their rest and prepare for the game we have been working hard to try and get a result in the cup.

“We want to work on our shape,” the gaffer continued. “We want to try and improve as a team and achieve what we want to achieve so we can keep doing well in the league.”

After Tuesday night’s experience against high-flying Arsenal, Jaap says there is a renewed desire from within the squad to keep pushing up the table, with the manager feeling the hunger all around the club for more nights like Tuesday evening on a more regular basis.

“Everybody wants to get as high as they can in the table both individually and as a team, admitted the Dutchman. “We want to play in the top league. We had a taste of it against Arsenal, a great atmosphere and that’s something that you need to work at, to be at stadiums like that week in week out.

“The fans did a terrific job on Tuesday and stood behind the team,” he continued. “The players need the support, it helps the team sometimes when the situation is difficult for them that they need to have somebody who is backing them up to help try and push them forward.”
