Anssi, Swifty and Andries on their fourth-round preferences…

21 September 2016

Trio let us know who they would like to face in EFL Cup

EFL Cup fourth-round passage was secured last night at the expense of Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex – and the draw takes place tonight!

After the fixture we grabbed a word with some of the playing and coaching staff to hear who they would most like to face in the next stage, with a place in the quarter-final for the first time since 1998 at stake.

Goalkeeper Anssi Jaakkola is keen on a team beloved in his homeland because of its association with his compatriots Sami Hyypia and Jari Litmanen, assistant manager Andries Ulderink wouldn’t mind the gaffer’s old club, whilst ex-Chelsea midfielder John Swift will gladly take on whatever challenge comes next – even if that's his former side!

Andries Ulderink…
“I always want to have a home game against a strong team.  That’s good for the crowd and a big challenge for the players.  My sons want us to play against Manchester United, so let’s say Manchester United at home.”

Anssi Jaakkola…
“A few of my mates would like to see us play against Liverpool – let’s see what happens.  They have a big support in Finland, so I am sure they would be happy to come over and see us play against them.”

John Swift…
“Every player wants to get a big team and you play in that game to prove yourself – but all the confidence from the boys is showing at the moment, so I think no matter what team we get, we’ll go into it like we want to win.  So there’s no preference on what team – but hopefully we can get the win when we play them!”
