Manager expecting another tough challenge from the Blues

13 September 2016

Jaap previews the visit of Birmingham

Royals boss Jaap Stam knows that his team will need to be on their game if they want to take a fourth straight win in all competitions this evening against Birmingham City.

Gary Rowett’s men go into this one off the back of wins against Norwich and Fulham – they battled to a win last season at Madejski Stadium and our new gaffer switched his focus straight from our Friday-night win against Ipswich Town to the next challenge under the floodlights against the Blues.

“We’ve seen them already – we’ll enjoy this win [against Ipswich] for the moment but from Saturday onwards we’ll be thinking about Birmingham,” said the manager after the Friday-evening triumph at Madejski Stadium.

“Birmingham have got a quality team as well.  They have got good players and they have got pace up front.  They sometimes play direct as well, but if you give them space they also try to play possession football as well.

“It’s another difficult game, but every game in the Championship is a hard and difficult, and not easy to win.

“We’ll be working very hard in that game to get a result as well.  We’ll see how we do on Tuesday.”
