Fixtures scheduled for Birmingham, Stoke & Sheff UtdThe Premier League Cup fixtures have now been confirmed - and Reading Under-23s will open their campaign this with an away game against Birmingham City at the Autotech Stadium in Solihull this weekend.
Reading then face Sheffield United away next month before a home fixture with Stoke City at Madejski Stadium in December, and in the new year the venues will be reversed as they look to progress to the knock-out stages.
The Royals will start their bid for the Cup - which they won back in 2013-14 - this Saturday in the Midlands as they meet Birmingham in the first game of Group H. The 11am kick-off comes on the same day as the first team host Derby County at Madejski Stadium with the senior Royals squad bidding to get back to winning ways against the Rams!
Reading are the only club in their four-team pool which play regularly in the Premier League 2. And so the Royals will be hoping to make a strong start to their Premier League Cup tournament in its new format, to be in with a chance of winning the competition for a second time.
Previously a straight knock-out competition, this year's tournament will be in a ‘Champions League’ style layout of a group stage followed by a Round of 16 knockout for the top two teams who progress from each group.
