Details of the EFL Cup pairings coming after this evening’s gamesOur EFL Cup run continues – and we’ll learn our fourth round opponents this evening!
The Royals are ball number 8 in the draw, which takes place after the remaining games tonight.
We beat Brighton in 90 minutes last night to reach that stage – and most of those were played a man down after Tyler Blackett was dismissed for the Royals.
Reading were a goal up at the interval through Stephen Quinn and the 10 men even extended their lead through a super John Swift strike… it needed more grit from the defence after Tomer Hemed had pulled one back late on to book our place in the final 16!
And this is where it all starts getting pretty serious. A quarter-final place will be on offer to the clubs that can negotiate their way through the next stage and a step closer to Wembley. For us, it could be just our third appearance in the final eight of the competition, and the first time in the Madejski Stadium era.
Just half of the third-round fixtures have been played as yet, and the other half come tonight – already through are the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool, so the probability of a glamour-tie is ever-increasing.
The fourth round draw follows Sky Sports’ live broadcast of Northampton against Manchester United at Sixfields. That means it should take place around 10pm, provided that that game doesn’t go to extra-time or penalties! Draw coverage takes place on Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports News HQ.
But in the meantime, make sure you’re back at Madejski Stadium this weekend as we take on table-topping Huddersfield Town on our own patch – another significant meeting in the Championship and a chance to extend our unbeaten run to an eighth game!
