Stam: “Saturday is another game…”

Gaffer previews home tie against Derby

While Reading’s lengthy unbeaten run came to an end in midweek in Brentford, manager Jaap Stam hopes his team can react positively to that blip and put a new run together – starting on Saturday at home against Derby.

“Saturday is another game,” said the gaffer.  “In our philosophy and how we want to play, we want to win every game – or at least get a result.

“A lot of times this season that has happened; against Brentford it didn’t and of course everybody is unhappy about that, but on Saturday against Derby we’ll go for the win again.  Hopefully we can get that.

“Whether we win or lose, we always analyse our performance – you need to improve if you lose games, and if you’re doing well you need to analyse those games especially.

“That’s how we work.  Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose… you want to win every game that you go into, but in this league it is difficult because you play against quality teams.

“You want to be very consistent in what you do, and we have been that for a long time.  Sometimes it can be useful to lose as well – although it is very difficult to say that!  But from certain games you can learn a lot.

“After losing one game, it’s not like you are back to square one.  We had a good streak, we have done very well, and we’ll try to keep it up.”
