Get your iconic image of the team in Forbury GardensThe Royals’ squad for the 2016/17 campaign headed down to the centre of Reading on Wednesday afternoon for a truly unique squad photo!
For the first time in our history, we took the team into town to get the official photo taken in front of one of Reading’s iconic landmarks – the Maiwand Lion in Forbury Gardens.
The Maiwand Lion was erected in 1884 to commemorate the 329 men from the 66th Berkshire Regiment of Foot who died in service during the Second Anglo-Afghan War. It is one of the most recognisable symbols of our town – and even features on our club crest!
On a sweltering day in our town centre, the players mingled with people from all walks of life from our local community on what was a beautiful afternoon for this commemorative photo. And after the main picture, five young competition-winning supporters joined the group to take their place as part of our first team too.
