13 more inducted into STAR’s Hall of Fame

3 April 2017

New names added last Thursday

Supporters’ Trust at Reading (STAR) hosted their second annual ‘Hall of Fame’ event in the Princess Suite at Madejski Stadium last Thursday, where 13 new names were inducted from across the decades.

After last year’s inaugural ceremony, a total of 24 individuals are now inducted – the Hall of Fame is a work-in-progress project scheduled to complete on the 150th anniversary of Reading FC’s first match in 1872.  Each year, between 2016 and 2022, between 10 and 15 new names will be entered.

In total there will be about 150 inductees fairly even spread across the 15 decades of the club’s history and any individual who has played an exceptional or distinctive part in the life of the club can be nominated, whether that be players, managers, officials, journalists or supporters.

And on Thursday night, there were a number of stands set up by key contributors, a quick-fire quiz run by Ady Williams and a raffle for all those who attended.

The new inductees and their years of service to the Royals are as follows:
•    Harry Rogers 1872-79
•    Charles Field 1876-87
•    Horace Walker 1880-96
•    Fred Bartholomew 1904-57
•    Joe Bailey 1911-21
•    Jack Palethorpe 1930-33
•    Maurice Edelston 1939-52
•    Ted Drake Manager 1947-52
•    Steve Death 1969-82
•    Roy Tranter (Director) 1983
•    Jimmy Quinn 1992-97
•    Steve Coppell (Manager) 2003-09
•    Gylfi Sigurdsson 2005-10

Pick up a copy of ‘The Royal’, our matchday programme, on Tuesday when we play Blackburn – there you’ll find detailed profiles of each of the newly-entered members and the contributions they made to our club.

Many thanks to all those at STAR who helped to bring about the event and to those who spoke on behalf of the inductees.
