“Bigger games are coming,” reflects Swift after Leeds win

Midfielder reflects on triumph against promotion rivals

The Royals took a big step towards securing a play-off places with a win against Leeds, resulting in Reading leapfrogging their visitors to fourth in the table as Yann Kermorgant hammered in the only goal of the game.

And while the result in itself was massive, John Swift – who was named Man of the Match for his contribution – feels that the games are only going to get bigger now.

Blackburn, who visit on Tuesday, are the first of the seven remaining games in the regulation Championship season.  The target, of course, is to extend the campaign by reaching the play-offs…

“It was a great game for us,” Swift said after the game.  “The three points are fantastic and to go out and play the way we did, especially the way we did first half… we played really well and had them on the back foot for most of the game. After we got the goal I think we deserved the result.

“There were a few chances in the second half; I think we had less of the ball but the better chances and if we’d taken them the game would definitely have been dead and buried. That’s something we’ve got to work on, but to come away with the three points is a massive win.

“These are the games we want to win, to put pressure on the teams above and below us as well.  But I think the bigger games are coming now.

“We’ve got seven games left and I think they’re all going to be tough and we need to go out there like we did today and prepare well and hopefully win more.

“Every game here is a massive game and it’s good to get confidence on board now for the next seven games and we couldn’t have done it any better than the two most recent results.”
