Academy starlet selected for England U17sYoung Academy prospect Danny Loader will represent his country in a major tournament this summer after being selected as part of Steve Cooper's 18-player England squad for next month’s UEFA European U17 Championship finals.
The Young Lions will travel to Croatia and open their campaign against Norway in Velika Gorica on Thursday 4th May, before facing Ukraine is Sesvete on Sunday 7th May and Netherlands in Zapresic three days later.
Loader is one of eleven in the squad who helped England sail through their elite qualifying round group – where they won all three matches, against Czech Republic, Bosnia and Slovenia.
The top two nations in each of the four groups will advance to the quarter-finals.
This season’s Euro finals act as a qualifying competition for the FIFA U17 World Cup which is being staged in India in October, with five European places up for grabs.
And England have an excellent recent record in the U17 Euros, winning the tournament in both 2010 and 2014. Congratulations to Danny on his selection for the tournament and good luck to England!
Loader's inclusion is yet another indication of how our well-respected Category One Academy is performing - looking throughout the rest of the squad, the vast majority of the players included come from Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester United, Everton, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City.
In fact, Loader is one of only three players representing football clubs who are currently playing their football outside of the Premier League.
However, Reading's Under-18s are flying high in the final stage of the U18s Premier League - behind only Chelsea and Arsenal in the elite stage of this season's competition!
