“Wigan will be fighting for their lives,” says Evans

Midfielder previews our final home outing

This Saturday is another important game for the Royals… any kind of result against Wigan would allow us to begin our play-off preparations.

But it’s of even more importance to visitors Wigan, who know that anything less than a win would see them relegated after just a single season back in the Championship… although even that may not be enough to take their hopes through to the final weekend.

So George Evans knows that Reading will face a Latics side who will be scrapping hard for a chance of survival…

“Up to now it has been a fantastic season for us,” said the midfielder.  “We’ve been brilliant all year.  We know we need just one more point, but we’re definitely not going to underestimate the game ahead.

“Wigan will be fighting for their lives, and it will be a difficult game because they have got some good quality as well.

“It’s one final push to confirm that play-off place, and we’ll kick on from there.  This isn’t a squad to sit back and relax – everyone is very focused and working hard in training.  We know how difficult it is going to be – they have a good team and they need the points to stay in the league.  It won’t be easy at all.

“We know if we play to our qualities, we can definitely go and get the win.  But we need to work hard and graft.”

“The way we approach the game will be the same.  We’ll go out and play our football, and we’ll try to set into our rhythm as soon as possible.  They might look to sit in and attack on the counter, or they might come with a full press.

“We’ll have to adjust to that, whichever way they go, and we’ll switch on and work out how to exploit them from there.

“As I’ve said before, we’re a very focused group.  We’ve looked at clips of Wigan and we know their qualities.  We know we have to be at it on the day and it won’t be an easy game.  We’ll keep working hard in training, listen to what the gaffer has to say and the input that he’s giving us, and put that into action on the pitch.”
