We can confirm that our Carabao Cup third round fixture against Swansea City will take place on Tuesday 19th September, kicking off at 8pm at Madejski Stadium.
The Royals were paired against the South Wales club in the small hours of Thursday morning when the draw was made in Beijing… all of the remaining teams are eyeing a place in the final 16 of the competition.
Each of the previous two rounds have been on our home patch as well. League 1 side Gillingham were seen off at the first stage, then Championship club Millwall were defeated in the second round… and now we host Premier League opposition.
Meanwhile Swansea, who entered the competition in round two, defeated MK Dons 4-1 in their only game to date in this year’s competition.
It is the fourth time we have been drawn against the Swans in the competition’s history – we have won each of the previous meetings. The most recent of those clashes came in the 2007/08 season, when Leroy Lita’s goal in extra-time gave the ten men of Reading a 1-0 win at Liberty Stadium after Sam Sodje's dismissal.
Ticket arrangements for this fixture will be arranged in due course.
