Royals boss Jaap Stam was pleased to see recent arrival Mo Barrow get onto the scoresheet for Reading for the first time in our win over Aston Villa – and backed him to keep contributing goals as the season progresses.
His close-range effort, latching onto Liam Moore’s low cross in the six-yard box, was his first league goal in almost 18 months. He wasn’t far away on a few other occasions, as he took the initiative to make things tick in the forward line… a pleasing factor for the gaffer.
“Mo is a quality player, with his pace and one-on-ones,” Stam said after the game. “He is very comfortable on the ball and in being a threat going forward. And he can score goals as well.
“I’ve spoken to him a few times already in the short time that he has been here… he wants to create opportunities for other players.
“But he’s the type of player who I think can score more goals and sometimes might need to be a bit more selfish in how he plays.
“He is trying to do that – you could see it against Aston Villa and he had a couple of good shots from the edge of the box. That’s the kind of thing he needs to do, because he’s a very good player.”
