A trip to Loftus Road is less than a week away now as the start of the 2017-18 Championship campaign looms large.
Last season, Jaap Stam began his managerial career as Royals boss with a win at home against Preston North End – John Swift scoring the only goal in a 1-0 Madejski Stadium win over the Lilywhites.
But this will be the first season’s start at Reading for a number of Royals players who have arrived since that victory, so here’s how some of our new recruits started last season away from RG2.
Adrian Popa began his season with a goal on the opening day of the Liga 1 season in Romania as Steaua Bucharest beat Gheorghe Hagi’s Viitorul 3-1 thanks to our winger’s 61st minute finish.
Vito Mannone, meanwhile, started last season between the posts against the might of Manchester City – Sunderland looked like they would win a point on the opening day at the Etihad last summer when Jermain Defoe equalised to cancel out a Sergio Aguero penalty kick.
However, Mannone was out of luck as debutant Paddy McNair headed into his own net to deny David Moyes’ Black Cats and our new stopper a draw.
And Jon Dadi Bodvarsson was beginning last season at a new club – having just signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers. And he kicked off the campaign with a goal, scoring in a 2-2 draw against Rotherham United as ten-man Wolves came from two goals down at the New York Stadium.
