Ask any player, they’ll most likely give the same response. Pre-season is useful, but it gets a bit tedious… the start of the season is what matters!
Liam Moore agrees. And the wait is almost over.
Now that the formalities of the preparation are done, it’s all about this Saturday's game against Queens Park Rangers – for the first time, three points are at stake in 2017/18 when we visit Loftus Road.
“Pre-season is good for fitness and tactics and things like that… but we’re footballers. We’re competitive and we want to be playing for points and prizes,” he explained. “Saturday is a perfect opportunity.
“We didn’t have the best results against QPR last season, but we’re confident in our ability and what we can do.
“Training has been good and we’re ready to crack on now. It’s the start of a marathon – the first game of 46 so we’re ready to go.
“The younger lads learned quickly last year that there’ll be ups and downs… it’s about how we deal with them throughout the year.
“It’ll be fantastic to get back here to Madejski Stadium – the pitch is looking unbelievable! It’s the first time I’ve seen it since it has been relaid and it’s really got the bit between my teeth to get back here playing again. All of the lads will appreciate it and hopefully we can kick on out on this pitch!
“We know either way that whatever happens it’ll be a long old season – but first of all we want to get points from every single game. That’s how we went into it last year – there wasn’t one game that we didn’t go in positively about, and that’ll be exactly the same come QPR.
“The main thing will be that we get the points and that we start to kick on again.”
