The Royals missed the chance to take home all three points on Saturday, as Barnsley snatched a point as the game crept into stoppage time – Ethan Pinnock snatched a goal late on to level after Yann Kermorgant had put Reading ahead.
But Tyler Blackett feels that the Royals will enter 2018 in a positive frame of mind, targeting a win against Birmingham on Tuesday evening at Madejski Stadium. The Blues may also fancy their chances, having toppled Leeds on Saturday.
“There’s always another game, and another opportunity for the team to do better,” Tyler reflected. “Hopefully we’ll do that on Tuesday.
“I don’t personally look at other team’s results – I think it’s about looking at ourselves and trying to do better than we did against Barnsley. Hopefully we can do that against Birmingham.
“It’ll come. We have to be patient with things, and things will go right for us in the new year. It’s a case of continuing our own game and improving on what we’ve done so far. We have to do better at both ends of the field, and we will do better.”
Tyler provided the assist for Kermorgant’s goal – a pinpoint cross, perfectly placed for the forward to direct a header into the net.
“I saw Yann making that movement, so I tried to find him – and I found him!” said Tyler.
“We all know his quality, and we have to help him to score more goals. He got off the mark against Barnsley, which is good for him and good for the team as well. But we all want to improve from results.”
