Evans and Stam on Oakwell challenge…

Midfielder and gaffer look on to Barnsley

29 December 2017

Another Saturday, another opportunity – three points the prize on offer when we visit Barnsley.

Returning midfielder George Evans, who was recalled to the starting XI after getting over an injury, knows that the Royals need to pick up some points in this busy period – a maximum return at Oakwell would do just nicely.

!This Christmas period is important for us and we want to get some momentum,” Evans said.

“We’ll be going for the three points at Barnsley, 100 per cent.

“We need to regroup and reflect on our games – work out what went right and what went wrong, and put it right when we’re out on the pitch.”

Managing the schedule is a tough task – keeping players fresh, picking teams to play twice a week and having an eye on what threats each opponent will post.

That balancing act is a task for the manager Jaap Stam and his backroom staff to contend with.

“You look from game to game – but even before the game against Bristol City, the analysts have been looking at Barnsley,” Stam explained.

“We’re looking at what we need to do and what we can do against them, and that’s where our focus is now.”

Tickets are available to buy on arrival at Oakwell for an increased rate – click the banner below for more information.
