Royals fanatic Ewan very sadly lost his father at just 14 years old and subsequently found real comfort in football - he has been a regular at Reading home and away games, travelling the length and breadth of the country to back the boys alongside his mum and siblings!
Ewan has formed some fantastic friendships through attending our games and we thought we’d surprise him with a special visit from skipper Paul McShane on Thursday afternoon!
Attending matches has had a really positive impact on Ewan – who has autism and learning disabilities. And whilst representatives from our Community Trust were delivering a football session at Brookfields School - a special education needs school in Reading - for Ewan and his classmates, Paul McShane appeared as an extra special treat just as the session was coming to an end!
Ewan and some of his friends, who are also big Reading fans, couldn’t believe their eyes when the defender popped in and Paul presented Ewan with a Reading FC home shirt, signed and framed, a birthday present his mum Karen had been working on for some months!
Macca also brought along a gift bag for Ewan, including a selection of goodies and a home shirt, carrying the skipper’s name and number, which he happily signed for the birthday boy!
