Before this season, Reading FC Women had never made it to as far as a quarter-final in a major competition. But now they have a chance to reach the final of the Continental Cup – only Arsenal stand in their way!
Kelly Chambers’ side have overcome some gruelling challenges en route to their fixture against the Gunners – which will take place at Adams Park on Sunday 14th January.
But the Royals have won all five of their fixtures in the competition, in what is becoming a very impressive season. That includes four wins in the group stages – including a 2-1 win against semi-final opponents Arsenal (including Fara Williams’ goal from kick-off!) and a 4-0 win against London Bees at Madejski Stadium.
The quarter-final tie was contested away at Everton – a thunderous effort from Kirsty Linnett wasn’t quite enough to put the Royals through in extra-time as the Toffees levelled things up… but they weren’t to be denied when spot-kicks followed!
And now Reading face Arsenal – either Chelsea or Man City await in the final. Brushing shoulders with football’s superpowers.
