U23s to do battle with Bayern on Friday!

Back the boys at Adams Park in International Cup

6 December 2017

Our Academy is amongst the best in the land – and that’s why our youngsters get to go toe-to-toe with some of the most high-profile clubs every week. And in this instance, we’re taking on one of Europe’s powerhouses when Bayern Munich II visit Adams Park on Friday in the Premier League International Cup!

Kicking off at 7pm in High Wycombe, it’s a chance for supporters to come along and see our fledgling talents facing some of the brightest prospects from the continent.

Last season, we took on Spanish side Athletic Bilbao and German giants Hertha Berlin in the group stages, as well as Everton.  This year, after facing reigning International Cup champions FC Porto and Arsenal, Bayern is our third and final group game of the competition – and we’re still in with a chance to go through.

It will probably need a handsome victory against the German club to stand a chance, however… the Royals have just a single point after the first two games, having fallen to a 2-0 loss to Porto and held Arsenal at 0-0.  But mathematically-speaking, it is still very much possible – and stranger things have happened in football!

We proudly boast of the 45 players to have graduated from our Academy ranks to have made first-team appearances – no less than five of those have come this season!

And Bayern Munich’s senior team can also point to the success of their youth system – current first-team and international trio Mats Hummels, David Alaba and Thomas Müller are all graduates of Bayern II.

All supporters are warmly invited to the game – it’s pay on the gate at Adams Park, priced £3 Adults and £1 Concessions (Over-65s and Under-16s), and parking is free subject to availability at the stadium.
