Medford-Smith, Howe, Holsgrove and Frost all sign dealsWe are delighted to announce that four aspiring young players have signed professional contracts with Reading Football Club.
Ramarni Medford-Smith, Teddy Howe, Jordan Holsgrove and Tyler Frost are all currently taking part in their Academy scholarships, and they have now all put pen to paper on their first pro deals with the Royals.
And this season, all four have stepped up from David Dodds’ Under-18 set-up to feature in Martin Kuhl’s Under-23 side in Premier League 2 competition, which has seen them take on some of the brightest young talent in English football.
Medford-Smith, Howe and Frost – each of whom are all second-year Academy scholars currently – were all also involved in our Checkatrade Trophy campaign, gaining some invaluable experience of playing against open-age professional clubs including Bristol Rovers, Portsmouth and Yeovil Town.
Earlier this season, Liam Kelly became our 41st player to graduate from our Academy and represent the Royals’ senior side – and Academy Manager Lee Herron is delighted that they each have the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of those that have already made the grade.
Herron said: “We’re delighted to get the commitment of these young players to sign as professionals from the Academy. There is still lots of work to do as always – when you get that pro deal, it’s about moving onwards and upwards.
“It is a really good achievement for each of them to be rewarded with a professional contract, and hopefully they can progress like many others have done to have an impact on our first team and beyond.
“It is inspirational for them to try and emulate some of the players that have gone before them. They have that next opportunity now. They all have different attributes and different skill-sets for what’s required of their positions, but they are all bright, hungry and humble young men with lots of desire.”
