Royals wide-man Roy Beerens on scoring the winner against the BeesReading winger Roy Beerens was delighted to get on the scoresheet on Tuesday evening and net the winner for the Royals in a dramatic late turnaround at Madejski Stadium.
Beerens, who came off the bench, latched onto Yann Kermorgant’s effort at goal to slot home and put the home side into a 3-2 lead against the Bees.
“When the keeper came out and he caught it wrong I knew I had to run forward and hopefully Yann will shoot on target,” said Beerens. “I was there and Danny was there, but I was happy I was the first one to it!”
“My main goal was to score 10 goals this season, I’m on seven now, so hopefully I can keep going and continue on Tuesday.”
The Dutch international was pleased with the way the Royals came back into the game against Brentford as says the togetherness in the squad helped the team in similar scenarios this season.
If we go behind, like if we did against Brentford, we change the game,” said the winger. “You can only do that if you stick together and are positive.
We started very well against Brentford, but after they came back into it and took the lead we managed to change the game.
“We changed the gamer in the last 15 minutes and we were very happy with that, he continued. “It was a crazy game but in the end we collected the points and we were very pleased with that.
“In the last couple of weeks we’ve changed our system and have brought in new players, everyone is staying really positive and everyone is still really getting behind the way we are playing.
