Jaap's side determined to put in a big performance in Brighton...

Reading boss Jaap Stam is hoping the Royals can pick themselves up to make a big performance in Brighton on Saturday evening, saying his side are determined to bounce back strongly.

Despite not getting the result he wanted, the gaffer was pleased with his team’s display in Huddersfield as the Royals were edged out after a very close game at the John Smith’s Stadium by a late goal from the hosts.

“The boys are very eager to do well on Saturday,” said the manager. “They need to work very hard and they need to show themselves in training sessions and in the games. They believe in what we are doing and they are enjoying it as well.

“They are getting results and towards the end of the season you always want to make a difference. We want to stay up there and everyone is very eager to keep doing well and stay in that top six.

“We want to have a result over there,” he continued.  “But obviously they want to pick up the result too, it will be a very interesting game.

The Royals have already faced Brighton on two occasions this season, taking a point at home against the Seagulls in the league and knocking them out of the EFL Cup in September at the Amex.

“We’ve played them a couple of times this season already, once in the league and also in the cup,” said Stam.

“We’ve done well against Brighton the two times we have faced them. They’ve got quality players and a very good side, that’s why they’re second in the league.

“We know their strengths but we can still make it hard for those teams,” Jaap continued. “If we want to stay part of this top six and if we want to finish this season with a very good prize then we need to do well against these teams.”
