Swift credits goal to ‘a bit of magic’ from teammates

John Swift talks through an exciting evening at St Andrews

Match-winner John Swift talked through an exciting win over Birmingham City on the eve of an equally exciting Deadline Day.

A superb back heel from Liam Kelly let Jordan Obita run in behind the defense and pass across the face of goal where Swift beat his man to tuck away his third goal in four games.

"At the moment everything is coming off and the whole team is buzzing!” said the midfielder after the referee called the game to the close.

“Every team in the Championship is going to be a hard game, you can’t just come here and think it’s going to be easy.

"Birmingham are obviously a great team and put up a strong fight today but I think we showed a bit of magic for the build-up for the goal and that’s all it takes to win a game.”

Discussing his goal, he gave all the credit to teammates Liam Kelly and Jordan Obita - both proud products of our Academy.

“I was just in the right place at the right time, all the work had been done before the ball got to me!" he continued.  "Liam did a great back heel and Jordan was unselfish in pulling the ball back across goal.

"I think I did the easy part, but obviously the whole team after that has a massive boost and we know we have to defend after that. To walk away with the three points after that battle is really pleasing.

“And three goals in four games for me is great, every player wants to score goals, it’s good for me to get on the score-sheet and keep scoring goals and hopefully I can get more!”
