Chris Gunter picks up Reading Sports personality of the year award...Reading and Wales international full-back Chris Gunter picked up the Male Sports Personality of the Year award on Sunday evening at the Reading Sports awards.
The right-back, who has represented both club and country with distinction in 2016, was chosen for his role on the international stage in the summer as he helped his native Wales reach the semi-finals of Euro 2016 in France, as well as his fine form for the Royals making 63 appearances for club and country in this calendar year.
The defender made his 400th appearance at club level on Thursday evening as he captained the Royals at Madejski Stadium, and is also well on his way to breaking the all-time appearances record for his nation, with an impressive 77 caps to his name.
Gunter has also played a big role in the Royals' strong first half of the season under Jaap Stam, with Reading finishing 2016 sitting third in the Sky Bet Championship table.
A stand out moment for Gunter in 2016 will have been his superb assist in the quarter-final’s of the European Championships, when the right-back burst down the wing to provide a sublime cross to Burnley’s Sam Vokes, who headed home to wrap up a historic victory against one of the favourites to win the competition.
