Royals defender eagerly anticipating clash with his former club...Reading defender Tyler Blackett says he is looking forward to returning to Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime as the Royals look for a way through to round four of the F.A. Cup.
The defender who left the Red Devils for Berkshire in the summer was delighted when he saw the draw and insisted he and the rest of the team are determined to go to Manchester to compete against Jose Mourinho’s men.
“It was fantastic to see the draw come out of the hat and I think it’s going to be a good game,” admitted Blackett. “It was almost something that seemed written in the stars especially with the manager that is here now, it was something that I had thought about and now it’s happened.
“It will be a big occasion for quite a few of the team. To have played there when I was young and to play for the first team is something which I will always remember.
"We’ve got to look at it the same as we do in every game. We’ll look to go up there and compete and do the right stuff on the pitch."
After making the switch to Madejski Stadium in August, the 22 year old feels he is improving as a player and is enjoying a new challenge in a different environment with the Royals well placed in the Sky Bet Championship table.
Blackett says he is enjoying life under manager Jaap Stam and feels he is learning a lot from the Manchester United legend.
“I’m enjoying Reading, it’s been a different step and I’m just trying to improve in the first team environment,” said the defender.
“The gaffer is obviously really well known at Man United and he’s been really good for me as a defender, he talks to us a lot and explains to us one-on-one how and what we need to improve on.
“There are many different things we can learn from him and he’s been a big help for me so far.
“Since the draw getting a result there is something I’ve been thinking about,” he continued. “It’s something we’d all love to achieve as a team, we need to make sure that we’re ready for it and that we’re going to challenge.”
