Jaap talks squad selection at Pride ParkThere are still a few players unavailable going into this weekend’s visit to Pride Park… but there are a few more options returning for our gaffer Jaap Stam. Captain Paul McShane is nearing a return after a hand injury, and Tiago Ilori is eligible after completing his move from Liverpool earlier in the week.
“Players-wise for the weekend, the squad is big and we’ve got choices to make,” said Stam.
“A couple of players are still injured. Callum Harriott, Joseph Mendes, Deniss Rakels and Stephen Quinn are all still out.
“The rest are okay though, they are all able to join in and compete for a place in the squad against Derby.”
Indeed, Ilori could debut in the East Midlands – he put pen to paper on a contract with the Royals earlier this week, as did winger Garath McCleary to extend his current tenure.
“We’re happy that both bits of business are done,” Jaap continued. “Tiago signing is the type of player that everybody likes for his qualities as a defender.
“He has pace, is good on the ball and is good at taking the initiative so it is good to have him within the squad.
“Garath, everyone who knows him or have seen him play knows what he can do. He uses his pace, he scores goals and creates chances for his fellow players so it’s a good thing he’s signed a new deal as well.”
