Winger previews Pride Park visit
Despite Saturday’s host Derby having lost each of their last two league fixtures, Reading forward Garath McCleary knows that the Royals will be in for a battle against a threatening side this weekend.“They’re a team that have been very much in form this season,” said the Royals wide-man. “They are a strong team with very good players throughout their squad, so it’ll be a tough game.
“But many games in this league are tough. Anyone can beat anyone in this league, as they have found out recently, and as have we. So it’ll be a tough game. It’ll be two teams that will go out looking for the win.
“We have been dangerous – we have conceded a few goals recently, but throughout the season we’ve put in strong performances. We’re expecting a battle and hoping for a win.
“It will be a good game between two teams that like to pass the ball. Hopefully it’ll be a bit more open and an entertaining game for the fans to come and see.”
After the visit to 7th-placed Derby, we host Fulham who currently lie in 8th for our rearranged game.
“Derby and Fulham are two teams that are in and around it – so for us it would be good for them not to take points from us for hopefully we can further the gap,” McCleary continued.
“Christmas has been a tough period, so to have the extra week for the gaffer to implement his ways and how he wants us to play against Derby is good for us. There are a lot of games coming up, and everyone is chomping at the bit and can’t wait to get out there.
“We’ve seen a bit of Derby and we know we’ll have to be at 100% – but that’s always the case.”
