Manager talks about new recruitRoyals manager Jaap Stam has been suitably impressed with what Tiago Ilori has brought to Reading with him since his arrival at the club – and he was pleased to finally be able to hand the 23-year-old a debut at Derby at the weekend.
Ilori’s arrival was officially confirmed on Wednesday, and Stam reflected on how the Portuguese youth international has settled within the group – both as a player and as a person.
“Tiago has done very well,” said Jaap. “When he joined the club, and in his training sessions as well in the group, he has been accepted in very well. He is getting on great in the atmosphere within the group.
“And against Derby, if you saw him playing you’d say he did very well for his first game with us. So compliments to him.
“He has pace, he is very comfortable on the ball – you saw that against Derby. He has made a very good impression.
“We’re looking for certain players with certain qualities and abilities. Tiago has got that and we saw that against Derby. So it’s very good to have Tiago in the squad.”
