Tanner extends stay at Home Park

16 January 2017

Young forward to continue promotion push with Pilgrims

Royals forward Craig Tanner has today extended his loan spell at Plymouth Argyle – a contract which will see him remain with the League Two club until 31st May 2017.

Tanner could feature for the Pilgrims in their FA Cup Third Round replay later this week as they welcome Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool to Devon in what could be a special night for Plymouth.

So far in this campaign Tanner has made 24 appearances for Plymouth in all competitions, netting five goals along the way including a strike as recently as New Year’s Eve in a 2-0 home win over Crawley Town.

The forward will be hoping to help the Pilgrims in their promotion push to League One, with Derek Adams’ side currently sitting in an encouraging second in the League Two table, just four points behind table-topping Doncaster Rovers.

The 21-year-old spent the whole of the 2015-16 campaign at Home Park, where he featured 50 times in league and cup for the Pilgrims as they came within a whisker of reaching promotion, only to be denied promotion against AFC Wimbledon at Wembley.

Returning from that loan stint this summer, Tanner was involved with the Royals during pre-season - travelling with Jaap Stam's first team squad to the Netherlands and featuring in four of our preparatory fixtures. He also represented the Royals’ Under-23 squad in their opening day win in the Premier League 2 at Arsenal.

Tanner will be joining a number of Royals out on loan until the end of the season including the likes of Tariqe Fosu and Sean Long.

Everyone at Reading Football Club would like to wish Craig the best of luck at Argyle from now until the end of the season!
