Meet the newest crop of promising young Academy talent who have put pen to paper on professional contracts at the club this summer!
Goalkeeper George Legg, who was part of Jaap Stam’s first team squad on a couple of occasions last season, and Icelandic Under-19 international Axel Andresson both signed on the dotted line with the Royals earlier this summer.
And last weekend they were joined by our Under-23s top scorer in 2016-17, Andrija Novakovich, who committed his future to the club for two more years before agreeing to a season out on loan at Telstar in Holland.
Striker Sam Smith scored against the likes of Chelsea, Stoke City and Norwich City last season and he has added his name to the Royals’ roster for 2017-18, as has midfield playmaker Ryan East who has signed up for next season.
Jake Sheppard and Lewis Ward both returned from loan spells at Dagenham & Redbridge and both Margate & Hungerford Town respectively to sign as Royals with some first team experience safely under their belts.
And a virtual ever present in the Under-23s camp in 2016-17, Andy Rinomhota, is also committed to making progress within the RG2 ranks next season – the central midfielder totting up an incredible 38 appearances across league and cup competition last season!
Some of the brightest talent in last season’s Under-18s set-up put pen to paper on their first professional contracts well before the summer began - Tyler Frost, Teddy Howe, Ramarni Medford-Smith and Jordan Holsgrove all completed their paperwork back in January and February 2017.
They have now been joined by Liam Driscoll, Ben House, Joel Rollinson and Ade Shokunbi who all move into the Under-23s set-up following successful years at Under-18 level. And Ethan Coleman, Tom Holmes and Kosta Sparta have all penned professional deals at the club this summer ahead of the start of the second year of their scholarships.
The club will continue to proudly champion the talent that our Category One Academy continues to produce and push through the youth ranks and potentially towards a first team career at the club. And we wish all these young players the very best of luck for 2017-18 and beyond…
