Last season, Adrian Popa was starting the season as a Steaua Bucharest star in search of victory over Viitorul in Liga I. And he scored on the opening day. Now, after firing home in our final pre-season game of the summer, he is hoping to ripple the net as a Royal.
“We are not happy with the defeat, because it’s the last game of pre-season and the last game before we start the Championship season,” our Romanian forward said after the conclusion of our final friendly against Vitesse Arnhem.
“We didn’t start very well and at half-time, we spoke and we fixed some things - and we showed that in the second half. We started to play our football and it was better.
“We need to get rid of the easy mistakes which we did when we conceded the goals against Vitesse and, if we can do that, I think we will be a much better team.”
Popa found himself on the scoresheet for the third time in pre-season, adding to goals against QPR at Hogwood Park and Genclerbirligi in Papendal with the second of our two against Dutch opposition at Adams Park.
“I’m happy with the goal,” he continued. “I prepare every day and I try to give my best all the time. These goals come as a reward for what I do on the field.
“In the past six months since I’ve been here, every day I feel much better. I know all the guys really well now and all my teammates know me better, which is good.
“I will prepare well every week and I hope that when I come into the team, I can do well.
“Right now, we’re just thinking about winning at QPR and we’ll prepare well and try and win like we do ahead of every game.”
