The Royals have returned from their ten-day stay in Holland and they're ready for a fianl pre-season outing against Vitesse Arnhem next weekend ahead of the big kick-off at Loftus Road in less than two weeks' time!
"We’ve had some real good training sessions, competitive games, so it’s been a really good trip," explained Chris Gunter after the final friendly in Oosterbeek on Saturday.
"It’s been a long ten days out in Holland – pre-season tours are like that. I don’t think many players enjoy pre-season too much..everyone wants to play in games where points are at stake.
"We’ve managed to work on a lot of things as a group, so we come back home a better team and a better squad for those ten days."
The Royals' right-back loves getting minutes under his belt - no matter how much football he played last season and how little his fitness levels need boosting.
"Pre-season is something you have to go through - and it’s all about getting through it as fit as possible.
"It is not about results, it’s about making sure when you get to the first game of the season, we’re in the best shape possible.
"And the games out in Holland have been helpful; everybody has played two full ninety minutes pretty much, some of the new boys have settled in well, a couple have come back into the squad - it's quite an easy squad to settle into.
"And it's been helpful for some of the young lads to come away and spend the best part of ten days together with the group.
"We've managed to get a few dinners in together and we played a bit of golf on our day off, things we don’t always do together back home. And that is also what pre-season is about.
"Everyone has settled in and we’re all looking forward to getting back home and finishing off our pre-season.
"And we’re ten days closer to the big start at QPR. So we definitely come back a better team than the one that went out there."
