Swift in England squad for U21 Euros

Royals midfielder heading to Poland with Aidy Boothroyd's Three Lions!

6 June 2017

Royals midfielder John Swift has linked up with England’s Under-21s squad as part of the squad for this summer’s European Championships in Poland.

Head coach Aidy Boothroyd named his 23-man group yesterday for a major tournament which kicks-off on Friday 16th June when the Young Lions face Sweden in Kielce.

With a number of pre-Euro training camps being held at St. George’s Park over the past month, Boothroyd had selected an initial 28-man group from which his final pick would be made. And Swift has made the grade to be included in the England squad that goes into battle later this month.

Swift will link up with his England compatriots at the national football centre tomorrow as they put in their final preparations before heading to Poland next week.

“We have some good players and like for any international team, bringing them all together and getting them all to work as a single unit, that is always the challenging part,” Boothroyd said.

“But we’ve got players with big game experience now, lads who have played in cup finals, play-off finals, big games and a couple of senior internationals.

Following their opener against reigning U21 Euro champions Sweden, England will face Slovakia on Monday 19th June before they round off the group stage against hosts Poland on Thursday 22nd June.
