Match preview of our game against Newcastle

Reading v Newcastle United
Madejski Stadium
Sky Bet Championship
Tuesday 7th March 2017, 8pm

Matches don’t come much tougher than a visit from the league leaders, who have based their rise to the summit on a remarkable record on the road.

A staggering 13 wins from 18 away games for the Magpies has given them the best return away from their own stadium in English professional football to date this campaign; but they’ll come up against a Royals side who have built their own fortress at home!

Only twice this season have our visitors left with a maximum return, and Saturday’s game against Wolves took us up to a dozen Madejski Stadium victory in the Championship in 2016/17.

And with only a handful of tickets remaining in all areas of the ground, there’ll be a lively atmosphere under the floodlights for this one.

Please see full ticket information for this game by clicking here.

As this is a particularly busy fixture, please ensure that you arrive as early as possible to avoid long queues at the Ticket Office if you are intending to buy on the evening of the game or collect tickets on arrival.

As this is a busy evening fixture with a near-sellout crowd and a lot of collections taking place at the Ticket Office, we would urge supporters to arrive as early as possible to prevent any risk of missing kick-off.

On a matchday, only very limited overflow parking is available at the stadium for £8 – we advise supporters to consider one of our off-site car parks. Non-Permit holders enter the Stadium via Northern Way only and Permit holders enter via Hurst Way and Northern Way.

If you have a child under the age of 12 in your car, you will be eligible to park in our special family parking area for £8 – spaces are available in advance by phoning the Ticket Office on 0118 968 1313 or visiting the Ticket Office in person. If purchasing in advance, parking permits will be posted or available for collection from the Main Ticket Office prior to matchday.

On home matchdays, any cars parked in excess of 2 hours at Costco South Oak Way will be subject to a penalty charge of £60 (reduced to £40 if paid within 14 days).  This will be enforced using number plate recognition CCTV (ANPR).

Tuesday evening’s game will be officiated by Andy Davies – his fourth visit to Madejski Stadium this year.  And pleasingly we have won each of the last three times he has been here!  They came against Preston on the opening weekend, versus Nottingham Forest in October, and over Norwich on Boxing Day.

Although Newcastle have also had good form when he has been on the whistle this season too – a 6-0 win away at QPR and a 4-0 home victory over Birmingham have occurred in his two Magpies matches in 2016/17.

Ian Cooper and Adam Crysell will be assisting Mr Davies from the touchlines, while fourth official for the evening is Keith Stroud.

Visitors Newcastle are favourites for the points according to EFL title sponsors Sky Bet – at time of writing they are Evens to claim all three points.  Reading are 14/5 for a win, while a draw is prices 12/5.

Yann Kermorgant would take his tally to 10 for the campaign with another goal, and he is 2/1 to notch at any time.  Skipper Paul McShane, the other scorer from Saturday, is 10/1 to make it goals in back-to-back games.

There is a revamped concourse menu in place for the 2016/17 season, details of which can be found by clicking here.
