Manager underlines fans’ role for the final dozenEven with all the best laid plans, things don’t always go your way in football – that’s the nature of competitive sport and in particular the relentless nature of the Championship.
But regardless of whether things are going for or against the Royals, manager Jaap Stam wants to know that his team can count on the support of the Reading faithful as we enter the final dozen fixtures of the 2016/17 campaign.
“Fans are very important for us,” Jaap said. “Fans need to be there to support their team in every situation during the game.
“If a team sometimes gets a couple of bad results, you need the fans to help them out. And if you’re ahead, you need them to give them an extra boost.
“The players are working very hard every time to do well for the fans. Not only to win games, but hopefully to give them a good game to watch as well.
“And when you’re down or if things are not working out, then you need the fans even more. They need to give you that extra push to get a bit more confidence to do well. On every occasion, they are very important for every team.
“Certain clubs within the league have a sell-out every game, so it’s a pity that it’s not the case over here – because it would have been nice if the stadium is always fill. For the players, myself, it’s always nice if the stadium is packed – it’s not the case and so be it, but hopefully those who are here can enjoy the game, we can give them a good result.
“Everybody wants the team to win. And nobody wants to win more than the players and the technical staff. We are all working very hard to get results.
“We all look towards the next game coming – that’s Wolves, so hopefully we can do well against them and get a result.
“It’s not going to be easy because they need a win and they need points as well, and they have a lot of quality. So we will need to be very sharp and focused in everything that we are doing.”
Fifth in the league with 12 games to go… we’re in a prime position to have something to play for right until the end of the campaign.
So we hope you’ll be in our corner for the run-in – beginning with our game against Wolves this weekend.
