Manager discusses travelling supportA travelling contingent of DOS Kampen supporters added some colour and noise to the Eamonn Dolan Stand on Saturday – and our gaffer Jaap Stam, who began his playing career with the amateur side in his hometown, was delighted to welcome the support.
Over 70 fans made the trip to Madejski Stadium, adorned in their own club’s black and yellow and the Royals’ blue and white. And they had a perfect view of the Royals’ goals against Wolves, as Yann Kermorgant steered in and Paul McShane bulleted in a winning header!
“It’s very nice – they are my amateur team where I started played football when I was a kid, from the age of 6 up until the first team,” Jaap explained.
“I left them when I was 17 and went into professional football, but I played in their Academy and a couple of seasons in their first team at a certain level.
“It’s always good that the people still follow you. When I was a player, they came over to see the teams that I played for, and now that I’m a manager they have come over to where we play.
“If I have the time and I’m in my hometown with my family and they are playing, I will go over there to watch them play. There was about 70 people here today and they were very happy to be here and in Reading. They were making supporting us and making a lot of noise, so it’s very good.
“They were close to the goal so that’s a good feeling, and they brought us some luck as well. Maybe they should come a bit more often!”
