The gaffer preiviews a difficult trip to Deepdale

Reading manager Jaap Stam wants more of the same from his players when they make the trip to Lancashire this weekend to face an in form Preston side at Deepdale.

The gaffer praised the commitment and performance of his side against Newcastle and believes the team will have to show the same again if they are to take anything from Saturday’s game.

“We need to bring at least what we brought to against Newcastle to game,” said Stam. “Maybe even more as a team to get a good result.

“We need to collect the points, get the result, go forward and attack. They will know that so we need to be wary of their threat on the counter attack.”

The Reading manager says the team will prepare thoroughly for a big contest in the North West against a side who have improved as the campaign has progressed.

Stam is wary of the Lillywhites’ strong home record and knows the Royals will have to put in an impressive display to glean the much sought after three points.

“We always try to prepare as well as we can,” said Stam. “Preston have done very well this season in the league. It was a slow start but until this point of the season they have done very well.”

“They are a top ten team as well, they make it very difficult for their opponents because they have quality within their team. Especially over there when they are at home it will not be easy to beat them.

“Everybody wants to finish as high as they can in the league,” Jaap continued. “Some teams play a little differently to the way they may have played before as the end of the season approaches.”
