Swift shortlisted for EFL Young Player of the Year!

Midfield man in the running for nationwide award

We’re delighted to announce that Royals midfielder John Swift is on the three-man shortlist for the EFL Young Player of the Year award!

Our summer arrival has made quite an impression since making the move to Madejski Stadium, and as such is now in with a shout with winning the esteemed prize.

A debut winner against Preston North End was just the start – Swift was named our Be Wiser Player of the Month for both August and September.  And then in January, he was named as the EFL’s Young Player of the Month after notching three league goals in a busy period for the Royals.

Making up the three-man race for the gong are Oxford United’s Ryan Ledson from League 1, and Jack Stacey’s Exeter City teammate Ollie Watkins in League 2.

Some of the former winners of the prize have gone on to bigger and better… Gareth Bale, Dele Alli and Nathaniel Clyne are all previous incumbents!

The annual awards ceremony will take place in London on Sunday 9th April, with accolades being dished out across 14 different categories in the EFL’s three divisions.

The best of the EFL will be honoured, with awards for players, managers and supporters, as well as worthy recognition of some of the great work being undertaken by clubs and the Trusts in communities up and down the country.

Shaun Harvey, EFL Chief Executive, said: “The EFL Awards are a fantastic way to recognise the achievements of clubs, players, backroom staff and fans and I would like to personally congratulate everyone who has been nominated and wish them all the best on the night itself.”

All at Reading would like to congratulate Swifty on a well-deserved nomination for such a prestigious personal prize!
