Van den Berg expecting a challenging contest at Deepdale

Royals midfielder hoping to follow up Newcastle draw with an important three points...

Joey van den Berg is expecting a tough task on Saturday when the Royals visit Deepdale to face Preston North End in another important Sky Bet Championship fixture.

The Dutch midfielder is predicting a vastly different game to the opening clash of the season in Berkshire between the two sides, with Simon Grayson’s Lillywhites having made big improvements since the opening weeks of the season.
North End have only lost two of their last ten Championship outings and haven’t lost at home since Boxing Day, so Joey knows it will be a big task to take the points on Saturday.

“They are definitely not the same team that we played in the first match of the season at home,” admitted Van den Berg.

“I’m curious to see how we react after a good result against Newcastle which is a good point on Tuesday. It will only be a good point for us against Newcastle as long as we get a win at Preston.”

Van den Berg is confident that the manager and his staff will put together a good plan for the weekend’s fixture in Lancashire, with their analysis of Newcastle proving successful in the game plan on Tuesday.

“We have to be ready for it on Saturday but no doubt we can go there and do it,” said the midfielder.

“The coaching staff always prepare well for these games, we can let them look at Preston and do that work. We just have to listen to them and do what is asked of us against Preston to try and get the three points there.”
