Reading stopper delighted to take award for second season...

Reading’s player of the Season Ali Al-Habsi was delighted with receiving the award for the second time in two seasons.

After what has been a memorable campaign thus for the Royals, Al-Habsi says it feels more special receiving the award the second time round in a season full of successes.

“It’s a great achievement for me,” said Ali.  “I’m very happy and very proud because I have worked very hard over the last two years.

“I would like to thank every single person who voted for me, it has given me great confidence in being number one at this football club.

“This year is more special for me because the team is doing very well,” Ali continued. “We’ve made it to the play-offs. The competition between the players has been amazing and that shows why we are here now.”

The Oman international says the close-nit squad at Reading has helped push him and others on to achieve a higher level of performance this season, with the stopper also full of praise for the coaching staff.

“I would like to thank all the group and the players that have pushed me all the way, said Al-Habsi. “I cannot forget our goalkeeper coach Dave Beasant who is fantastic, working really, really hard with us and makes it really enjoyable.

“Everyone knows when the team is doing very well, everyone would expect the player of the season to be a striker or maybe a midfielder or a defender, so for me to get it for a second time in a row is brilliant.

“The way the fans and people at the club have treated me and supported me it feels like everything has come together.”
