Assistant on upcoming Burton fixtureWith nothing major riding on this weekend’s game against Burton Albion, you might be forgiven for thinking that the dead-rubber at the Pirelli Stadium will be a meekly-contested affair.
That’s not the plan though, according to assistant manager Andries Ulderink! The Dutchman knows that the Royals’ competitive spirit will ensure that they look to enter the play-off campaign off the back of a win against the Brewers.
“It’s a relief that we have already reached the play-offs… but we want to win the game against Burton,” said Ulderink.
“We’re sportsmen! We’re not going over there to play a light game – we want to win it.
“You have to stay concentrated – you want to go into the play-offs with a good feeling. We want to be third in the league because that’s the best position we can be in. The focus will be there.
“We don’t have players who want to sit back… we have a term in Holland about ‘summer evening football’, when everyone slows down a little bit! It won’t be like that – we want to go for the win.”
The Brewers have taken an impressive nine home wins in their maiden campaign at this level of football… and Andries knows that Reading will have their work cut out to avoid being the tenth scalp taken in the Midlands this year.
He continued: “In our home game against them, they created some good chances against us but they failed to score them, and we dominated part of the game.
“But it’s the last home game for them and they will want to show their crowd what they can do one more time before they go on holiday.”
