12 May 2017

Contracts signed, offers made, whilst others depart RG2

Reading Football Club can confirm that new professional contracts have been offered to 11 young players who have been impressing either in our Under-23 side or out on loan during the 2016-17 campaign.

Goalkeeper George Legg, who has been part of Jaap Stam’s first team squad on a couple of occasions this season, and Icelandic Under-19 international Axel Andresson have both already put pen to paper on new contracts with the Royals.

Jake Sheppard, Tariqe Fosu, Zak Jules and Lewis Ward have all been offered new deals having experienced first team football out on loan this season – at Dagenham & Redbridge, Colchester United, Motherwell and both Margate & Hungerford Town respectively.

Ryan East, Andy Rinomhota, Andrija Novakovich, Sam Smith and Luke Southwood have all predominantly starred in our Under-23s league and cup campaigns as well as our Checkatrade Trophy adventure this season – and all have been issued with new contract offers!

Rinomhota has made an incredible 38 appearances across league and cup competition this season, impressing in a central midfield role for our Under-23s, while Andrija Novakovich topped our goalscoring charts when he signed off with his 16th goal of the season in the 3-2 win over Sunderland at Madejski Stadium on Monday night. And young goalkeeper Luke Southwood was this week named in England’s Under-20 squad who are preparing to travel to South Korea to compete in the World Cup this summer!

Meanwhile, a number of our young players who have come through the Academy ranks at the club will leave the club this summer and take the next step in their career elsewhere. Everyone at Reading Football Club would like to thank and wish the best of luck for the future to Harrison Bennett, Aaron Kuhl, Stuart Moore, Joe Tupper, Terence Vancooten, Sean Long, Craig Tanner, Jack Denton, Dominic Hyam and Harry Cardwell.

Some of the brightest talent in our Under-18s set-up this season have already put pen to paper on their first professional contracts ahead of next season - Tyler Frost, Teddy Howe, Ramarni Medford-Smith and Tom McIntyre, who will be joined by Ethan Coleman, Tom Holmes, Danny Loader and Kosta Sparta as they sign professional deals at the club this summer before moving into the second year of their scholarships.

And offers of professional contracts have also been made to four more second year scholars – Liam Driscoll, Ben House, Joel Rollinson and Ade Shokunbi.

“Our Category One Academy continues to flourish at every level and remains a shining light within youth football, proudly punching above its weight and continuing to produce talented young footballers capable of breaking into the first team at Reading,” Academy Manager Lee Herron said.

“We are absolutely delighted to see that so many talented young players have committed to professional contracts at the club and we are very excited to be offering deals to a number of other young players who continue to develop into exciting prospects for the future. And, rest assured, we will also be working very hard to support those who are set to move on to pastures new. Many of these young players have come through this club’s Academy from a very young age and not only do we wish every single one of them all the success for the future, we will also be here to help them forge professional careers in football. They will always be a Royal and their progress and development remains extremely important to everyone here at Reading.”
