Moore: “It’s not just another game…”

Defender previews visit to the Cottage

It’s all been leading to this: 46 games played in the Championship, 85 points earned, and now a chance to earn a spot in the Premier League via the play-offs.

Reading defender Liam Moore is under no illusion that this is the most important pair of games for the club to date this campaign.

But, simultaneously, he knows that the squad need to take in much of the same approach that has given them so many winning results throughout the year.

“It’s been spoken about for a while, because we’ve been in a positive position for so long,” Moore said.  “It speaks volumes of the boys to continue in the way we have and stay in the top six, and to cement such a good position.

“The play-offs are just around the corner now and we need to channel all of that excitement and positive energy into a good place – and do everything we can on Saturday.

“I’m excited – I know what we want to do.  I try not to think about it too much, because you can drain yourself.

“It’s not just another game – it’s the play-off semi-final.  It’s a big, big game.  But we need to go into almost as if it was just another game.  The same mentality, the same way of playing, the same intensity… we’ve hit some very good form recently and we need to continue that.

“We have a young squad, but we’re mature as well.  People seem to know the size of the game, but also that there’s no point draining yourself and getting too upbeat too early in the week.  We need to be right on the day, rather than on the Tuesday or Wednesday.  It’s all about being right on the Saturday in order to take the right result into next Tuesday.”
