“We deserve our place in the final”

17 May 2017

Defender Liam Moore on being one game away from the Premier League…

“It’s crazy. It’s almost like it was written,” said Liam Moore after a thrilling 1-0 victory over Fulham in the second leg of the play-off semi-final at Madejski Stadium. “After the season that we’ve had, a new manager, new players, new system, everything, it’s clicked into place in time and we’re going to Wembley!

“In terms of league games today was our 48th, so it’s a lot of learning along the way. A couple of blips, a couple of bad results, but overall I think we’ve done well and we deserve our place in the final.

“In the semi-final and the final, it’s all about having the biggest balls! Today and Saturday I think overall we did that. We took an early lead in the second half, stayed strong and we got our just rewards.”

Tuesday night was a massive accomplishment for Jaap Stam’s squad. They needed to give their all and Moore outlined the effort that they went through to achieve a spot in the final at Wembley on 29th May.

“The shift was outstanding, we put everything into these last few days. Every lad in there’s drained, they’re knackered, but it’s what you need to do to get where you want to be.

“We’ve done that, we rest now and then we go again. We’re one game away from the Premier League and we just need to give everything!

“There was a big message being passed on in the dressing room, don’t leave anything in the tank. You don’t get these opportunities in your career too often, take it with both hands and I think each to a man can hold their hands up and say they gave absolutely everything and tonight we got our reward for it.”

After such a result, what do you do to celebrate? Focus soon turns to preparation for the final and after Sheffield Wednesday’s semi-final with Huddersfield on Wednesday night, the team will soon know who stands in their way from being back in the big time.

“We’ll see who we get and then whoever it is they’ll obviously deserve their pace in the final along with us and we’ll just have to prepare for them and we’ve got a long time to do that.

“This is some feeling! You want to enjoy it and celebrate it but you can’t too much because we’re not all the way there.

“We’re one step away and I don’t want to be that team that falls at the last hurdle. We just need to prepare now and when the final comes give everything and hopefully it’s our time.”
